On July 31,2021 White Lightning Resource Center held it's First Annual Bookbag Giveaway at the Mattie Nash- Myrtle Davis Recreation Center in West Dallas. With contributions from local donors we were able to giveaway over 200 backpacks to local residents.

In addition to partnering with volunteers from the Nash-Davis Rec Center, we were also able to have volunteers from the Dallas Public Library, Pretty Braids by Jermeece and The Nubian Narrator. The main goal for the backpack Giveaway was to introduce the WLRC and to make the community aware of who we were and that we are here to help. Speaking with board member Charmayne Bennett gave more insight into the event. "It's a blessing to go from being the one in need to helping those in need. Today was so rewarding. We definitely have more events like this in store for the upcoming year."
